Q: Thanks for sharing your story with us! First, please introduce us to your work and your business.
A: Native Brush Design creates beautiful and sustainable brands for those who are extremely passionate about what they are doing in their corner of the world.
Q: What inspired you to start your own business?
A: My biggest inspiration for starting my own business was the desire to be in charge of my own time. The thought of working for someone else everyday just didn’t appeal to me. I knew that I wanted to wake up and be able to decide how I wanted each day to look. I didn’t want to have to ask permission to go on vacation or take a sick day, I wanted to be able to call the shots and be my own boss. I worked for a few different companies and constantly said to myself “if they could start this business, why couldn’t I do the same?” – and then I made it happen.
Q: What lessons have you learned from failure or setbacks in business?
A: The biggest lesson that I have learned so far is that setbacks will happen, and how you respond to them is going to determine your outcome. There will be really high highs, and super low lows, and your persistence and perseverance is what really allows you to thrive and succeed. Learning to stay calm and collected even during the most stressful times and reminding myself that I will make it through and get to reap the rewards of all my hard work is what really gets me through.
Q: How do you stay motivated on difficult days?
A: To say there aren’t days that are difficult would be a lie, there are definitely some days where I stop and scratch my head and say “what the heck am I even doing” – but what keeps me motivated is that I genuinely love the freedom of being my own boss, that it’s allowing me to build a life that I am truly happy to wake up to. Being a mom, I am motivated by the fact that I am creating a life that will also be able to fill my kids with adventure and confidence. I want my daughter to know that she can do absolutely anything if she is determined enough.
Q: Do you have any specific services or products you want to shout out?
A: I am actually going to be launching a course in the new year that will focus on educating fellow creatives on how to turn their creative skill set into a profitable business! This will dive into everything from creative tools to use, to legally setting up your business and making things official. You can join the waitlist here!
